Most specifically, my specialty is not simply who I photograph but how I do so. As a person who is drawn to realness and raw, untamed matter, I am immediately drawn to the who of a person—their patterns, their inconsistencies, their unique markers that say, “I am me.” Whatever makes a person who they are is what I seek to capture, so when it comes to these distinct, lifelong events of love between two, I seek to capture their one-of-a-kind story and no one else’s because no two love stories are ever alike.
The love between two people is often inexpressible—deriving from the innermost parts of our souls—but speaks volumes in every movement, every word spoken, and every expression made. And this, this beautiful realm of indefinable love, is where we thrive. This is where I long to be—in a position where capturing the intense love between two beings becomes my one and only task.
It’s nice to meet you, you beautiful soul. I am Anna Rowena, an Upstate New York photographer that has fallen for capturing the love between couples. Originally from the Golden State of California, my creative soul craved to adventure through the rugged and breathtaking nature of the Upstate/Capitol region. In New York, just like in any place I visit, you can find my pink-haired self trying new Vegan recipes and bistros, sippin’ something tasty, and adventuring the outdoors any chance I get.
I have considered myself “a creative” for the last 20 years of my life. For as long as I can remember, I have felt a pull to creating—whether it be drawing, baking, gardening, or anything else I can do with my hands—it has always been a part of my identity. But in looking back, this creative side has evolved into what I consider an artist whose medium is photography.
Now, for more than 8 years, I have had the pleasure of pursuing my passion in capturing the passion in gorgeous small wedding and elopements—a place where magic is undeniably present. The decision to get behind the lens started when I received my own wedding photos. I remember looking at them and thinking, “This looks like a f***ing magazine!” In that moment, I knew I wanted to do the same for other people—and here I am—nearly a decade into a calling I couldn’t imagine my life without.
As an Upstate New York wedding photographer, I am drawn to the couples who push to side the traditions and bask in the lightness of doing their wedding their own way and in a storyline that compliments their personalities.
With so much unspoken emotion, powerful love, and personality between couples, there is so much we cannot express in words — even when we are asked to stand amongst our closest friends and family as we try to recreate the sum of that love in a just few lines. This is where I long to live — behind a camera lens—capturing the moments that words cannot seem to encapsulate — so that as you look through the photos that will last a lifetime, you reexperience the intangible moments that make your story YOURS — one that is uniquely divine and gorgeously irreplaceable.
